This week I am going out on a bit of a limb in an effort to get back into 2nd place in the Sports World Radio pick ’em contest. The point spread doesn’t really matter in this pool but I picked my winners in spite of the spread. So let’s go game by game…
Saints at 49ers – Saturday 4:30 pm EST
I’m aware that Drew Brees is on fire and in my opinion should be the MVP of the NFL (if you don’t count Peyton Manning), but I have a gut feeling on the 49ers this week. The 49er defense has been incredible this year and Brees and the Saints are due for a loss. If the Saints do pull this out then they will win the Super Bowl. If I had any money to bet, I would take the 49ers + 3 1/2.
Broncos at Patriots – Saturday 8pm EST
Are Tebow‘s 15 minutes up yet? Geez, it makes me sick to see all the hype around him, they talk about him like he is a Hall of Famer already. Maybe he will be a good, even great Quarterback someday but not yet. I can’t imagine Denver going to Gillette stadium and beating the Pats and Tom Brady, this is gonna be a worse beating than the 41-23 massacre a few weeks ago. While I’m bashing Tebow, here is the joke I posted the other day…”Some pics have surfaced of OJ sodomizing Tebow, when will he learn to stay out of white Broncos? Talk about Tebowing…ouch!!!”. Anyway, take the Pats -13 1/2.
Texans at Ravens – Sunday 1:00pm EST
I am a bit torn about this game, the Texans have a tremendous running game and a pretty good defense. Joe Flacco makes me nervous because I think he is overrated and week to week you don’t know what he is going to do. The reason I am going with the Ravens is simple…Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs and Ed Reed. Reluctantly I’m taking the Ravens – 7 1/2 but I’m not sure they will cover.
Giants at Packers – Sunday 4:30 pm EST
This pick may just be wishful thinking but I feel in my heart that the Giants are hitting their stride at just the right time. The defense is peaking and Eli has been amazing this year, with the running game back I honestly think we can keep A-Rod off the field long enough for the G-Men to pull off the upset of the year. If I had money to bet I would take the 7 1/2 and the Giants.
So there you have it, I am taking a gamble on the 49ers and the Giants but you know the old saying…Defense wins championships.
Here’s hoping the Patriots cover the spread…and then some.
